Welcome to Open Enlightenment, a new website by Alan Chapman and Duncan Barford, two practising magicians whose writings previously appeared on the award-winning occult website The Baptist’s Head.
Our work has redefined the contemporary practice of western Magick as a genuine spiritual tradition that leads the magician to direct experience of the Absolute, or what is commonly known within the Eastern religious traditions as enlightenment.
The focus of this new website will be less upon our personal exploits and more upon deeper exploration of both the nature of enlightenment and its attainment within the framework of western magick. We will also be featuring original material from guest writers, encompassing a variety of approaches across a range of esoteric traditions.
I followed the path here from the Buddhist Geeks, and I’m looking forward to participating in Open Enlightenment.
I’m coming from a background in Ken Wilberspeak, some psychology, education, and a bit of Buddhism, which I focused all into a little theory that more generally defines the patterns of growth/learning (for anything). In other words, I made another map! The most recent version of mine is at: http://www.blog.thewiseturtle.com/?p=735 It’s based on binary (digital) growth patterns. I’m very curious to see how my descriptions map onto others, beyond the maps from Wilber and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, which I started out with.
